Mount Rinjani Summit Trek – 2 Days / 1 Night
Take on the ultimate short adventure to the top of Mount Rinjani with this 2-day, 1-night summit trek — perfect for those with limited time but a strong desire to experience one of Indonesia’s most iconic peaks.
This trek is designed with a clear goal: reaching the summit of Rinjani. Unlike longer routes, this program focuses on the ascent and descent via the Sembalun trail, without continuing to Segara Anak Lake, making it a more time-efficient yet still highly rewarding experience.
Your journey begins across the open savanna of Sembalun, where expansive views and gentle slopes gradually lead you higher up the mountain. As you climb, the landscape transforms into rugged volcanic terrain until you reach the crater rim, your campsite for the night. Here, you can relax, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner, and take in the breathtaking views as the sun sets over Lombok.
In the early hours of the morning, you’ll begin the final push to the summit. This challenging ascent is rewarded with an unforgettable sunrise from the top of Mount Rinjani (3,726 meters), where sweeping panoramic views stretch across the island, the ocean, and neighboring peaks.
After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend back along the same route to Sembalun Village, completing a compact yet truly memorable trekking experience.
This package is ideal for active and adventurous travelers seeking a shorter Rinjani trek that still delivers a sense of accomplishment, dramatic scenery, and the unforgettable experience of standing on Lombok’s highest point.

Day 1: Sembalun Village to Sembalun Crater Rim
After an early breakfast the next morning, we drive to Sembalun Village (1,100 m), the starting point of your trek. Here, you’ll complete registration at the Rinjani Information Center and meet your trekking team before setting off.
The hike begins with a gentle walk through open savanna, offering wide views of rolling hills and Mount Rinjani’s impressive landscape. The trail gradually leads you to Pos 1 (1,300 m) and continues to Pos 2 (1,500 m), where you’ll take a short break.
From here, the path climbs steadily to Pos 3 (1,800 m), where you’ll stop for lunch and recharge before the more challenging section ahead.
In the afternoon, the trek becomes steeper as you make your way up to the Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 m). This part of the climb is the most demanding of the day, but every step brings you closer to one of the most rewarding viewpoints on the mountain.
By late afternoon, you’ll reach the crater rim campsite. While your guide and porters set up camp and prepare dinner, you can take in the incredible scenery—overlooking Segara Anak Lake, the volcanic landscape, and the island of Lombok stretching out below.
As the sun sets, the sky transforms into a stunning display of colors. Enjoy a warm meal, relax under the stars, and rest well in preparation for the summit attempt the following morning.

Day 2: Summit Sunrise, Segara Anak Lake & Senaru Crater Rim
Day 2 is the most rewarding part of your Mount Rinjani adventure — and without a doubt the toughest. In a single day, you’ll experience dramatic changes in landscape, from the rugged summit ridge to the tranquil crater lake, before finishing at the breathtaking Senaru crater rim.
Your day begins very early at the Sembalun Crater Rim campsite. After a warm drink and a light breakfast prepared by your trekking team, you’ll set off under the night sky toward the summit. The trail quickly becomes steeper, with loose volcanic sand that makes each step more challenging, especially near the top.
Reaching the summit of Mount Rinjani (3,726 meters) at sunrise is an unforgettable highlight. As the first light appears, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views across Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa. Below you, the vast crater reveals the stunning Segara Anak Lake, creating one of Indonesia’s most iconic landscapes.
After taking time to rest and capture photos, you’ll descend carefully back to the Sembalun crater rim. A well-earned breakfast will be waiting at camp, giving you time to recover before continuing the journey.
The next stage leads down into the heart of the crater. The trail winds along steep volcanic slopes before opening up to the calm shores of Segara Anak Lake. This is a perfect place to relax, enjoy a freshly prepared lunch, and take in the peaceful surroundings.
A short walk from the lake brings you to the natural hot springs, where you can soak and ease your muscles after the demanding summit climb — a favorite moment for many trekkers.
In the afternoon, the trek continues with a steady ascent to Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 meters). This section requires effort, but the reward is one of the best viewpoints on Mount Rinjani. From the campsite, you’ll enjoy panoramic views over the entire crater, the lake below, and the lush forests of northern Lombok. On clear days, you may even spot Mount Agung rising in the distance on Bali.
For those who prefer a slower pace, it is also possible to camp near Segara Anak Lake instead. However, this option makes the following day longer, with a later descent to Senaru village. Your guide will help adjust the plan based on your group’s condition and preferences.

Day 3: Senaru Crater Rim to Senaru Village
Your final morning on Mount Rinjani begins at the scenic Senaru Crater Rim (2,620m). As the sun rises, you’ll enjoy cool mountain air and one last breathtaking panorama across the crater before preparing for the descent.
After breakfast at camp, the journey continues downhill toward Senaru Village (600m). Today’s trek is longer but less intense than the summit day, covering approximately 10.5 km with a descent of around 2,020 meters.
The trail leads you into a dense tropical rainforest, offering a completely different atmosphere compared to the exposed volcanic landscapes of previous days. The shaded path keeps temperatures cooler, and the sounds of nature replace the wind of the higher elevations, creating a calm and relaxing trekking experience.
As you make your way down, your guide will schedule several rest stops where you can rehydrate, stretch, and take in the surrounding greenery. This part of the national park is rich in wildlife, and it’s common to encounter monkeys along the trail. For your safety and to protect the ecosystem, please avoid feeding or getting too close to them.
Arriving in Senaru Village marks the end of your Rinjani adventure. It’s a rewarding moment to reflect on the journey — from the challenging summit push to the serene beauty of Segara Anak Lake and the diverse landscapes you’ve experienced along the way.
Estimated Trekking Timeline
07:30 AM – Breakfast at the Senaru Crater Rim campsite with panoramic views of the crater.
08:30 AM – Begin the descent through the rainforest trail toward Senaru Village.

Our Small-Group Mount Rinjani Trekking Experience
At Jou Trekking, we focus on delivering a more personal and enjoyable Mount Rinjani trekking experience by keeping our groups small and well-organized. This approach allows every hiker to fully enjoy the journey, with better support, flexibility, and comfort on the mountain.
Small Groups for a Better Experience
We intentionally limit the number of participants on each trek to maintain quality and safety. Most of our groups include 4–5 trekkers, with a maximum of 6 people per trip.
With fewer people, our guides can give more individual attention, adjust the pace when needed, and create a more relaxed trekking environment. This makes a big difference, especially on challenging sections like the summit push.
Friendly and Well-Balanced Groups
Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with friends, we carefully organize groups to ensure a good mix of participants.
Many of our guests come from different countries, creating a social and welcoming atmosphere. It’s common for trekkers to start as strangers and finish the journey as friends, sharing an unforgettable adventure together.
Professional Local Guides and Porters
Every trek is supported by a skilled local team with extensive experience on Mount Rinjani. Our guides are trained in safety procedures and mountain navigation, while our porters handle all logistics, including camping gear, food, and equipment.
This allows you to focus on the experience — enjoying the scenery, the climb, and the overall adventure — without worrying about the details.
Support Team Structure
We carefully arrange our team based on group size to ensure comfort and efficiency throughout the trek:
- 4 trekkers: 1 guide + 4 porters
- 5 trekkers: 2 guides + 5 porters
- 6 trekkers: 2 guides + 6 porters
This balanced setup ensures you receive enough support while maintaining a smooth and enjoyable trekking pace.
More Than Just a Trek
Climbing Mount Rinjani is not only about reaching the summit — it’s about the entire journey. From stunning crater views to the unique experience of camping under the stars, every moment is part of the adventure.
